Wei Yuan (b.1999) Taichung, Taiwan Lives and works in Brooklyn, New York
Wei Yuan’s work questions impulsive desire, and cultural transition between Taiwan and New York. He draws inspiration from the Greek
and Roman figuration sculptures’ making history, and the contingency between city, nature and the human
body. His work has been exhibited at A Space Gallery, Li Tang Community, and DeCA
Contemporary Art Foundation, and he was selected for the Mudhouse Artist
Residency in Crete, Greece (2025). Wei Yuan holds an MFA in Sculpture from Pratt
Institute and a BA in Architecture from Chung Yuan Christian University in Taiwan.
Statement: I create fragments of the body—scattered yet interconnected. I work with non-toxic
materials, honoring the idea that the body dedicates to natural ecosystem. My practice
reexamines, gender structure, tactile appreciation, and the power
of visual perception. For furniture scale sculptures, I create shapes as notions. Shapes that invite people to sit on, walk
around, and look at—engaging both physically and visually.
